What is the difference between Muslim Life and the MSA?

Muslim Life is a staffed university department that is part of the Office of the Chaplain. Muslim Life advises the MSA, but the MSA is a charted student organization; and is a great way for students to get involved with their Muslim peers on campus! Most importantly, the CML is here to serve all Muslim students regardless of their background, identities, or religious practice.

Are there classes on Islamic Holidays?

Yes. Wake Forest does not cancel classes that coincide with Islamic holidays. Students may request an accommodation due to religious practice however and communicate with their professors well ahead of time. To learn more about religious accommodations and holy observances, you can click here.

What is a Muslim Chaplain and what do they do?

A chaplain may be a term that is unfamiliar to many Muslim students; however, Muslims have been engaged in Chaplaincy in the United States since the 1940s. Muslim Chaplains are trained caregivers, focusing on the spiritual and emotional health of those they serve. Chaplains can be found in the military, prisons, hospitals, and universities, serving unique roles in each institution. In higher education, it is common to see chaplains developing social, religious, and educational programming for their community. It is just as common to have a chaplain spend most of their time checking in and speaking with students while supporting the activities the students develop.

What kind of programming does Muslim Life offer?

Muslim Life offers a variety of programming, both virtual and in-person. One example is monthly reflection groups, which are aimed at creating spaces that allow students to be vulnerable, while developing skills such as emotional processing and self-reflection. Muslim Life also uploads virtual lectures on Islamic topics every month to the WFU Muslim Life YouTube page.
